Meet the Ann’s Choice Leadership Team

Get to know the executive team that governs our community.

Christopher Donati, Executive Director (2007)

Chris joined Ann’s Choice in 2007. He has over 20 years’ experience working in senior housing. Prior to joining Erickson Living, he was an executive director for Cooperative Retirement Services of America (CRSA) at Mercy Ridge, Inc., a 455-unit continuing care retirement community located in Timonium, Maryland. Chris also opened and managed life care communities for Marriott Senior Living Services and Sunrise Senior Living Services in Wilmington, Delaware, and Stamford, Connecticut. He is a licensed nursing home administrator in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Connecticut. Chris graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in health planning and administration, as well as a master of health administration degree.

George Comfort, Associate Executive Director (2014)

George has over 20 years’ international executive experience working for both medium-sized and Fortune 500 companies in the high-tech business as well as the nonprofit industry. He has strong experience in the chief executive role of a midsized nonprofit and a broad background in large account sales and marketing, both domestically and internationally. His most recent position was executive director of NorthBay, LLC, the largest and most innovative residential environmental education center on the east coast. George holds bachelor of science degrees in computer science and math from Vanderbilt University, a master's in the management of aging services from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and is continuing to work on an M.A. in counseling from the University of Cincinnati.

Vincent Scala, Associate Executive Director (2016)

Vincent joined Ann’s Choice in 2016. He has over 20 years’ experience in leadership and operations. Prior to joining Erickson Living, he spent 12 years at the Empire Education Group, most recently serving as vice president of field operations. Vincent helped Empire Education Group grow from 37 schools in 9 states (2004) to over 100 schools in 21 states (2010). Vincent graduated from Hofstra University with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Deborah Olcese, Director of Marketing (2002)

Deborah joined the Ann’s Choice team as the director of sales in December of 2003. She transferred from Cedar Crest, the Erickson Living community in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, where she also held the director of sales position beginning in 2002. Prior to joining Erickson Living, she was the personal care administrator at Twining Village, a CCRC in Holland, Pennsylvania, for 11 years. Deborah, a licensed practical nurse, attended nursing school at Bullard Havens Technical School with clinical training at Bridgeport Hospital in Connecticut and maintains her nursing licenses in numerous states. She received her personal care administrators certification from Temple University. She also maintains a real estate broker’s license in North Carolina.

Peter Cataldi, Director of Resident Life (2008)

Peter joined the Ann’s Choice team as the director of resident life in 2008 after working in the same capacity at Cedar Crest, a sister Erickson Living community in Northern New Jersey. He is responsible for the seven departments that fall under Resident Life’s umbrella. Peter began his Erickson Living career as a wellness manager and then assumed the title of community services manager prior to accepting his current title. Peter spent 17 years working principally in rehabilitation at JFK Medical Center in Edison, New Jersey, prior to coming to Erickson Living. He holds a bachelor’s degree in health education from Syracuse University, an M.S. in exercise science from the State University of New York College at Cortland, and a doctorate in sport psychology from Syracuse.

Tom Walsh, Director of Finance (2003)

Tom joined the Ann’s Choice team as director of finance in 2003. Prior to joining Erickson Living, he worked as the chief financial officer for Preferred Care, Incorporated, and Preferred Care Life Insurance Company, a managed care entity in the Philadelphia area. Tom earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Temple University and his M.B.A. from Philadelphia University. As director of finance, Tom’s responsibilities include enterprise risk management, budget establishment and compliance, internal audits, and monthly financial preparation and reviews.

Chris Babst, Director of Dining Services (2003)

Chris joined the Ann’s Choice team as restaurant manager for our first clubhouse and was promoted to director of dining services in 2006. Prior to coming to Ann’s Choice, he worked for the Great American Restaurants group in Virginia. Chris also owned and operated the Mill Race Inn in Holland, Pennsylvania, and owned a catering company in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. He is a certified food service manager, ServSafe instructor, food management professional (FMP), and dietary manager (CDM). He is also adult CPR/AED certified. Chris received his bachelor of science in hotel, restaurant, and institutional management from Pennsylvania State University.

John Marcelis, M.D., Medical Director, Regional Medical Director (2003)

Dr. Marcelis joined the Ann’s Choice team as the first doctor of our medical center. Prior to joining Erickson Living, he served 10 years with the University of Pennsylvania’s Clinical Care Associates as a practicing geriatrician. He was also a member of their Institute on Aging and Medical Director for a local CCRC and subacute ventilator unit. He completed his undergraduate degree in biochemistry with honors from Temple University and then went on to complete his medical school training, internship, and residency at Temple University Hospital. Dr. Marcelis is responsible for the operations of the medical center, provision of medical services, policy and procedure oversight, and integration of medical center activities within a seamless continuum of care.

Peter Schwartz, M.D., Associate Medical Director (2005)

Dr. Schwartz received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Wesleyan University in Middleton, Connecticut, and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his internship and residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Schwartz is board-certified in internal medicine. He joined Ann’s Choice in February 2005.

Bethany Mangin, Director of Human Resources (2007)

Bethany began her career in human resources working for a large west coast retailer. She then transitioned into health care working for a behavioral health facility in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, before coming to Ann’s Choice in 2007. Bethany worked at Ann’s Choice as a human resources manager and senior human resources manager, before being promoted to human resources director in 2013. Bethany holds a bachelor’s degree from Montana State University in organizational communications and a master’s degree from Villanova University in human resource development. She is certified as a professional in human resources (PHR) and teaches human resources management to undergraduate students as an adjunct professor at Eastern University.

Melinda Dechert, Director of Continuing Care (2016)

Melinda Dechert brings over 10 years of senior health care experience to her role as director of continuing care. Prior to joining the Ann’s Choice team, Melinda spent eight years as an administrator for ManorCare Health Services in San Diego, California, and Sunnyvale, California where she worked in large skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers. She moved back to Pennsylvania in 2014 where she held the position of nursing home administrator for ManorCare Health Services at Mercy Fitzgerald. Melinda holds a degree in communications from the University of Delaware and an M.B.A. from National University in La Jolla, California. She joined Ann’s Choice in July 2016.
