Ann’s Choice Celebrates Groundbreaking for New $19 Million Continuing Care Building

Bucks County premier continuing care retirement community expands health care options

On April 27, Ann’s Choice, a senior living community in Southeastern Pennsylvania, developed and managed by Erickson Living, held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the construction of Chestnut Pointe, a $19 million, two-story, 50,000 square-foot assisted living building on campus.

Participating in the groundbreaking were Ann’s Choice Board of Directors member Mary Colins, Ann’s Choice Resident Board member Howard Bishow,  Ann’s Choice Executive Director Chris Donati, Ann’s Choice Director of Continuing Care Melinda Dechert, Resident Advisory Committee Chair Marty Freedman, and Resident Advisory Committee member Gertrude Solkov.

More than 60 guests attended the ceremony including PA State Representative Bernie O’Neill, Chair of Warminster Board of Supervisors Mark McKee, Warminster Township Manager Gregg Schuster, residents, staff, and representatives from SFCS architectural firm, Warfel Construction, and Becker & Frondorf.

Construction of Chestnut Pointe is part of Ann’s Choice multi-year plan to expand and renovate its existing continuing care residences, along with amenity spaces. The new building will connect to the existing three-story continuing care building. The project is expected to take 14 months, with reservations starting in early 2018.

Chestnut Pointe will feature 61 new assisted living apartment homes ranging in size from studios to one and two-bedroom styles. Each apartment home will include a private, full bathroom and a kitchenette, and some will feature patios leading to an enclosed courtyard. Common areas available for use by all continuing care residents will include living rooms, media room, creative arts studio, salon, bistro, games lounge, library nook, and fitness room.

Third floor renovations of personal care residences in the existing continuing care building include establishing 44 memory care suites. The well-designed memory care residences will meet the specialized needs of residents by providing a stimulating, nurturing and amenity-rich environment. Because the expansion will connect the two buildings, memory care residents will have access to a secure outdoor garden on the addition’s rooftop.

“This vision for this project has been truly exciting and reflective of the community’s commitment to expanding its high-quality health care options for seniors,” said Ann’s Choice Executive Director Chris Donati. “Ann’s Choice person-centered care philosophy is the hallmark of its service culture and the driving force behind a model of care that also is helping meet emerging market demands.”

Ann Choice’s standard of excellence for the provision of health care and commitment to meeting the specialized needs of residents is well-known in the senior living marketplace.  Most recently, Ann’s Choice continuing care neighborhood received a five-star overall quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and for the fourth year in a row was rated one of the “Best Nursing Homes” by U.S. News and World Report. In addition, the community’s health plan, Erickson Advantage®, received a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Medicare Advantage Health Plan rating of five-stars for Part C and five-stars for Part D.

When the multi-year project is complete, Ann’s Choice will have a total of 61 assisted living apartment-homes, 44 memory care residences, and 88 skilled nursing residences.

The project’s designer is nationally recognized LEED-certified architectural firm SFCS.  The Virginia-based architectural firm has a local office in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
