Cedar Crest Residents' Paintings, Photographs and Sculptures Take Center Stage at Art Show This Past Weekend

Annual Art Show Allows Seniors Opportunity to Display Their Special Hand Crafted Talents

POMPTON PLAINS, NJ - Many residents of Cedar Crest have a variety of interests and talents.  Some of these artistic abilities were displayed this past Saturday at the annual Cedar Crest Art Show. Residents showed off their paintings, sculptures, photos and other forms of imaginative creations for some of the 2,000 residents and members of the public to see. These valuable pieces of art were created by 33 artists who not only dabble in their techniques but hand-craft their work after years of experience, passion and dedication. Cedar Crest resident May Fisher, who displayed some of her paintings and beaded jewelry, said that for her, creating art is an inspirational release. "I enjoy seeing what I can do and it feels good," she said.  "I ask myself 'What can I do, May?' Mrs. Fisher, who only began her art career about a decade ago said, "I once had a saying printed up that said, 'You don't have to be great, you don't even have to be good, just try something new and the world opens up to you,' and that's how I feel when I create." "Ever since I was a kid I have sketched and painted and always found it to be extremely peaceful and helped me keep collected," said Cedar Crest resident Ralph Boult, who took time to sketch participants and visitors at the art show. "Creating art is such an important part of my life and it is where I go for solace and comfort." "Many of the residents at Cedar Crest have immense talent, artistic ability and we are delighted that they want to display their various gifts," said Cathy Guttman, Cedar Crest executive director. "The imaginative flair that our residents continually display is bountiful and our arts and crafts studios nearly always have someone in them creating a variety of works of wonder."
