The Spirit of Giving is Alive at Greenspring this Holiday Season

Almost $300,000 was raised by residents and given to hourly employees at the Springfield retirement community during the 2011 Staff Appreciation Fund campaign

(SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA) - Each year during the holidays at Greenspring retirement community, residents organize a charitable campaign in an effort to say 'thank you' to the hourly staff members at the community.  These non-management, hourly employees include members of the security team, the grounds crew, the housekeeping staff, the transportation team, the culinary, banquet, and kitchen staff, the maintenance staff, and Renaissance Gardens employees at every level of care from the nurses to the dining service, maintenance, programming, housekeeping and laundry teams. This year, residents at the community raised $292,000 for the 2011 Staff Appreciation Fund.

"It's such a wonderful way for the employees to know they are appreciated and for the residents to show their gratitude for a job well done," said Anita Garifo, Greenspring's Community Resources Manager. On December 13, staff members received the checks from the residents and had an opportunity to thank them for their generosity while the residents were able to express their gratitude for their dedicated service. "This is our once-a-year opportunity to give a monetary gift showing our gratitude to these kind, hard working employees for the service they perform daily," according to the Resident Life Committee which organizes the Staff Appreciation Fund campaign.
