Dog Tag's Returned to its Owner at Brooksby Village After 60 Years

Marine's dog tag was found in Saipan

Peabody, MA  -- Richard Urie a U.S. Marine Corps had his identification tag, which was lost during World War II and found in Saipan, returned to him where he lives at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA after 60 years.  U.S. attorney Timothy E. Moran returned the dog tags to Urie at his Brooksby Village retirement community home. "This is the most amazing thing to happen to me," said Urie.  "When you reach my age, you don't expect any surprises. It bring back many memories and I am glad my daughters and grandchildren were able to see my dog tags." Mike Villagomez, of Saipan, found the dog tag in 1981. Randy Kruid, a U.S. special investigator Deputy Marshall assigned at the Saipan office, tracked down Urie. Urie joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 when he was 19. He was discharged in 1946. He was a PFC radio operator attached to the Headquarters Company of the 2nd Marine Division stationed on Saipan. "I can't thank everyone who helped bring me back my dog tag's enough," said Urie.  "This is a very special time for my family and me."
