Greenspring's "Village in Motion" Celebrates Ten Years on the Air

The retirement community's in-house television station has been broadcasting its daily show since January 2, 2002

(SPRINGFIELD, VIRGINIA) - Airing live Monday through Friday from 10am-10:30am, Village in Motion has historically featured a variety of guests including Greenspring staff, local and regional politicians, health and fitness professionals, media representatives, as well as residents who have unique talents or stories to share with the community.  The morning show is recorded and replayed four times throughout the day, airing on the community's Channel 6 station. "Channel 6 is constantly bringing on guests who are experts in their field regardless of whether they live in the community or not," said Diane Gatsis Havinga, Channel 6 Executive Producer and CTV manager.  "Our goal is to be an effective source of information to the community we serve." On January 2, 2012, Channel 6 showed the very first Village in Motion show which aired 10 years ago to the day.  "The celebration of our 10th anniversary will continue all year," said Havinga.  "Channel 6 will be producing a monthly segment including a previous Village in Motion show, which will re-air every 3rd Wednesday." When Village in Motion first aired in January 2002, the station had only a few resident volunteers; there are now 35 resident volunteers who help with all facets of production from hosting to floor managing to audio board coordination.  Most of the resident volunteers do not have any past experience in a television studio; however, the Channel 6 production team trains volunteers in audio and television production, allowing them to experience all aspects of production so they can choose what makes them the most comfortable. In its history, Channel 6 has received 21 Telly's for the station's outstanding production work, including a Bronze Telly in 2011; Telly awards are presented annually to honor local, regional, and cable programs, as well as other video, web, and film productions. "I am so proud of the Channel 6 team at Greenspring," said Robin Gliboff, Executive Director of Greenspring.  "Day after day they provide truly fascinating programming for our residents."
