Fox Run Magician to Perform Magic Show for 250 Students at Earhart Elementary Middle School in Detroit NOVI, MI (February 9, 2012) - Jon Millheim, a special teams project leader in housekeeping at Fox Run retirement community who has performed magic for the past 40 years, will entertain students at the Earhart Elementary Middle School in Detroit on Friday, February 10, at 9 a.m.  About 250 Third-through-Fifth Graders will see the magic show. "Besides being a fun and magical experience for the students, they will be learning and practicing important reading and scientific skills while being amazed at the same time, " said Susan Firestone, a teacher at the school. "Making predictions of what trick Mr. Millheim will do next, or using an inquirybased skill to figure out how he did a certain trick, are necessary skills to  master in both reading and science. "The students will have an opportunity to practice these skills while experiencing joy and laughter, and I think that is a perfect combination, " she said. Millheim's magic show  will pay respect to the traditions of famous magicians such as Doug Henning, David Copperfield, Harry Blackstone Jr, and Penn and Teller, who he has met over the years. Millheim has a lifelong connection to magic. He saw his first magic show at a carnival in Pennsylvania when he was seven years old. He got his first magic set in 1970 and did some tricks for friends. His performed his magic show for a birthday party three years later. Millheim worked as a magician/disk jockey from 1972-1999 prior to moving from Florida to Michigan in 2003. He has performed magic for Fox Run Family Christmas shows for residents, family and visitors. In addition, he has done magic for 4th grade students at Franklin  Street Christian School. The Earhart School is sponsored annually by Fox Run during the holiday season. Fox Run residents and staff provided 170 back packs filled with books, candy, water bottles, school supplies, and small toys to students last Christmas.
