Charlestown Honors Its Resident Leaders at Annual Luncheon

259 residents volunteer over 4,800 hours monthly

CATONSVILLE, MD---Charlestown, the Erickson Living retirement community, extended a patriotic "thank you" to its men and women who make a difference on campus and beyond. The Ninth Annual Leadership Luncheon honored 259 residents of Charlestown who lead its 297 resident-created groups and clubs.  "A Stars & Stripes Celebration" was the theme for the February 21st event held in the Chesapeake Restaurant. "The groups and clubs cultivate a culture of kindness and generosity at Charlestown by building bridges among the residents and in the greater community," stated Mary Evans, Senior Community Resources Manager, at Charlestown.   "These leaders create meaningful social networks here and beyond that produce significant results." The honorees currently volunteer over 4, 800 reported hours per month. These 297 groups and clubs have different purposes, structures and sizes; they cater to different interests; and they are composed of a diverse cross-section of residents. Whether it's with Bridging Generations, a joint program between Charlestown and Lansdowne Elementary School, or the Nature Trail Committee, a group that cares for the environment, each leader drives their group's activity.  They run meetings, plan special projects or events, manage group membership and inspire the best in their members.
