And They're Off! Eagle's Trace Residents & Guests Celebrate the 138th Running of the Kentucky Derby

Pre-race party features mint juleps, best hat contest & handicapping challenge

HOUSTON, TX---Just two days before the running of the 138th Kentucky Derby, residents and guests of Eagle's Trace were ready for the Run for the Roses. Over fifty residents, priority list members and guests attended a pre-race party hosted by the Sales Department of the Erickson Living retirement community located in West Houston on May 3rd. "On the first Saturday of May, the Twin Spires of Churchill Downs is one of most iconic scenes in American sports, and we did our share to capture the experience," described Pam Burgeson, Sales Director at Eagle's Trace.  "We are so glad that our residents and guests were able to enjoy an afternoon of great food and fun." It was "virtual" Churchill Downs at the community's Garden Room Restaurant, complete with a delicious menu of Derby favorites such as Kentucky BBQ sliders, shrimp cocktail, Kentucky Bourbon pecan pie and of course Early Time mint juleps.  The special spread was prepared by the Dining Services Department of Eagle's Trace. Big hats were also the order of the day, as prizes were awarded for a celebration of the time-honored tradition of the Kentucky Derby.  Categories included "Biggest Hat," "Best Derby-Inspired Hat" and "Best Men's Hat." Attendees also had the opportunity to place their "wagers" on the upcoming race for prizes. To help with their selections, Eagle's Trace was proud to host horse racing expert and enthusiast Martha Claussen as the keynote speaker for the event.  Ms. Claussen served as director of media relations at Sam Houston Race Park from 1997-2007 and then racing writer for the Houston Chronicle.  Currently, she is the coordinator of Q-Racing Aces, a new fan education initiative created by the American Quarter Horse Association. Ms. Claussen provided the audience with an insider's view of the horse racing industry and her analysis of the Kentucky Derby.
