Oak Crest Honors Academic Excellence, Workplace Leadership at 16th Annual Scholars' Award Ceremony

Forty area students receive four-year collegiate scholarships; $2.1 million awarded by Oak Crest since 1997

PARKVILLE, MD---Oak Crest, an Erickson Living retirement community, announced its Student Scholars Class of 2012 during the 16th Annual Scholars' Award Ceremony held on April 25th. Forty high school students employed in the Dining Services Department earned scholarships for their collegiate careers.  The value of these awards is $1,000 per year for a four-year total of $4,000. These students attend ten high schools in Baltimore City and Baltimore & Harford Counties as well as seven colleges in Maryland. "The annual scholarship ceremony is a special occasion because it is a celebration of a team effort," said Todd Sullivan, Director of Philanthropy at Oak Crest.  "Parents prepare their sons and daughters for work before each shift.  Our residents generously donate to the scholarship fund.  And these young men and women share their enthusiasm at our campus.  We extend our warmest appreciation to this year's scholars and their families and wish them nothing but continued success." The majority of the scholarship money is raised through a coordinated campaign held in March and April involving residents, employees and community partners of Oak Crest. To this point, $138,000 has been donated during the scholarship drive, announced Mr. Sullivan. Since the first Scholars Class of eight in 1997, 670 students have earned collegiate scholarships from Oak Crest, totaling $2.1 million in contributions.
