The Wizard of Seabrook Brings Magical Excitement to the Active Adult Community

Seabrook Performers Create Original Production- Seventh Show Hits Center Stage at Seabrook

TINTON FALLS, NJ - Lights, camera, action! A group of talented residents are ready for all of it as they are putting the final touches on the upcoming performances of the original play The Wizard of Seabrook Village, which will run the weekend of June 9th - 11th. The play, which features magic, majesty and marvelous music, will thrill the audience as Seabrook residents and staff hone their acting and musical skills for a ride down the yellow brick road of sorts. The screenplay was put together by residents Lindo Meli, Herb Gissen, Art Katz, Bill Sagosz and Norma Linzalone.  After creating, recreating, critiquing and finalizing the product, the group, which is named the Seabrook Performers, had the final show ready to go. Twenty four performers are in the production, which Mr. Meli describes as "...putting a little fun into the world of Seabrook and making it a fantasy.  It is a story about people who essentially decide to retire.  All the departments are featured- the kitchen, grounds, etc." There are approximately 13 numbers in the show, which will run approximately an hour and a half. Mr. Meli is no stranger to the theatre.  Sixty years ago he created what was a synthesis of two of his greatest loves, acting and teaching.  The St. Mary's Drama Guild in Queens, NY was formed in 1949, and since that time Mr. Meli has performed in or directed more than 150 shows on the stage and radio. Meli began his theatrical career at the age of nine and traveled the world.  He has worked with great actors such as Ray Bolger, Raymond Burr and Peggy Cass.  He even worked in radio with a young lady named Betty Bacall, who later took on the first named Lauren and became one of the most popular leading ladies in Hollywood. Performing in theatrical groups in school to help combat shyness, Mr. Meli developed a theatrical group and programs while he was stationed abroad in the U.S. Army in Australia. Under the direction of Mr. Meli, The Seabrook Players have put together six other shows at Seabrook: *Tevya the Milkman *Six at Seven Thirty- original *A Taste of Broadway *Life is a Seabrook Cabaret- original *Guys and Dolls *Arsenic and Old Lace So is Mr. Meli concerned about how the show will go?  "This will be a great show.  We are all working so hard and giving it our all.  But what I love most is that I've brought a family together.  We have become a family by virtue of a group of people who love what we do together."
