Wind Crest Residents Now Practicing Their Zumba Moves for April 12 Spring Fling Performance

(HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (March 8, 2013) -- Wind Crest, a retirement community in Highlands Ranch, CO, are now practicing their Zumba moves for an April 12 Spring Fling performance, which will include three dances. Zumba is a craze that is sweeping the nation. Many health clubs and community recreation departments offer Zumba. While Zumba classes differ from club to club and instructor to instructor, all Zumba classes use Latin-inspired music and have a dance party atmosphere. The Zumba classes at Wind Crest are and are filled to near capacity because of Zumba's popularity. Zumba Gold, which is offered at Wind Crest, takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:15 a.m.  in the Creative Arts Room.    "Possibly the biggest benefit of Zumba is that it is so much fun people look forward to going to class and working out," said Allyson Schmidt, Fitness Zumba Specialist at Wind Crest.  "At its core, Zumba is a cardio workout which burns calories and improves cardiovascular fitness. Zumba can improve muscle tone and strengthen the body. Zumba is also a great stress reliever. The sweating, dancing, and occasionally shouting involved in Zumba will release stress and tension in a person's  body." Zumba was created by Beto Perez in the 1990s. It started as a fluke. One day Beto showed up to teach a group fitness class and did not have his aerobic music. Quickly improvising, he pulled out some of his favorite personal music, Latin with a dance beat and got his class dancing. The class was so much fun that it was a smashing success. The Zumba program today is being taught at more than  90,000 locations in over 110 countries.
