NCOA launches new tool to help you land a retirement job

More than ever before, adults 55 and older are looking to get back in the workforce. In fact, in March around 1.8 million people in that demographic were actively looking for a job. In an effort to help, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) recently launched JobSource, a new online tool that will let you assess your skills, search for potential employment opportunities and land the perfect retirement job.

Although working past the traditional retirement age may not seem like an ideal lifestyle, for many people it has become an important part of senior living. Not only does it provide supplemental retirement income, it is also a popular way to stay active and engaged later in life. This new tool gives you the chance to make sure you are up-to-date with the skills required to be a member of the contemporary workforce.

"For many older Americans, employment is necessary to remain financially secure, healthy, and independent," said Nora Dowd Eisenhower, senior vice president of economic security at NCOA. "But as industries and workplaces evolve, it is vital that older adults acquire the skills that can keep them competitive."

According to recent figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximately one-third of people between the ages of 65 and 70 are currently in the workforce, and about 7 percent of those 75 and older are as well.
