Gary Engelstad Honored at Seabrook

TINTON FALLS, NJ - In his role as Director of Resident Life, Gary Engelstad oversees the success of resident programs, activities and services at Seabrook, including the community's very talented theatrical group the Seabrook Performers. This group of some 100 members honored Engelstad on May 21st, for his support, and they caught him totally by surprise. At Seabrook's regular monthly resident town hall meeting, Lindo Meli, director of the Seabrook Performers, presented the award to Engelstad. He spoke first of the acting troupe's upcoming show A Taste of The Best of Broadway II. Then Mr. Meli thanked Engelstad for his dedication, resourcefulness and caring in helping the Seabrook Performers gain success on the community's big stage. Mr. Meli presented Gary with a large framed picture of Gary himself, autographed individually by each of the 100 members of the people in the group. "The Seabrook Performers have a real friend in Gary Engelstad," Mr. Meli said. "This group has put on some high-caliber shows for residents, their families and friends and Gary has been there from beginning to end - rooting us on, providing guidance and also taking significant stage roles. This is just a small way to thank someone with a big heart for the arts." Bob Gamble, speaking for the performers lauded Engelstad for supporting the group in every way over the years. "He has provided technical support for the theatre, sound and lighting and he has provided maintenance, manpower and promotional support. In addition to portraying Captain Bracket in Tales of The South Pacific, Gary was instrumental in obtaining a 15 by 30 foot painted backdrop of the island of Bali Hai for the stage production." Over the past five years the Seabrook Performers have performed adaptations of eight Broadway musicals, including Arsenic and Old Lace, 6 @ 7:30, Guys and Dolls, A Taste of the Best of Broadway, Life is a Seabrook Cabaret, Tevya The Milkman, The Wizard of Seabrook Village and Tales of the South Pacific.
