The Catholic University Alumni at Riderwood Relive College Days During Luncheons

SILVER SPRING, MD---Some entered the Catholic University of America (CUA) on the G.I. Bill following World War II.  Others enrolled to pursue specific careers.  They attended mutual weddings and served as colleagues in professional life. But over sixty years later, these alumni of the Catholic University remain friends and share memories of their time at the Washington, D.C.-based school of higher learning. Some CUA residents of Riderwood retirement community in Silver Spring who graduated in the 1950's gather periodically for lunch to stay in touch. "It's always a celebration of people, and of course, our beloved Catholic University," described Mrs. Terrie (Graumann) Elliott, class of 1950 and the first woman to serve as the school's alumni association president.  "The life connections made at Catholic University are incredible, and some of us are fortunate to continue them at Riderwood." Look no further than Riderwood residents Alberta (Abear) Dowd, class of 1950, and Margaret (May) Gilder, class of 1950.  Each graduated with a degree in Nursing Education and attended each other's weddings.  Mrs. Dowd married her husband, John, class of 1950, Mrs. Gilder married her husband, Jack, class of 1950.  Mrs. Elliott, a drama major, married her husband, George, class of 1953.  "We still follow the programs and sporting events and make an occasional trip to the campus," stated Mrs. Elliott.  "It is a special time in our lives now when we can really appreciate the quality education, value experiences and life-long friendships made at the Catholic University."
