Continuing Care Neighborhood Opens at Wind Crest

HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO (October 10, 2013) - Douglas County Commissioner Jill Repella today keynoted the grand opening ceremony of Mill Vista Lodge,  the new  continuing care neighborhood at Wind Crest. Mill Vista Lodge features 144 spacious suites/apartments, including assisted living, memory care, short-term rehabilitation and nursing care services.  Common areas, in-room dining options, screened-in porches and gardens are among the amenities that contribute to a person-centered approach to health and wellness. More than 150 business, government, healthcare, and civic leaders attended the grand opening event. Participating in the ribbon cutting ceremony were Craig Erickson, Wind Crest Executive Director; Fred Krey, Mill Vista Lodge Resident; David Simonson, Highlands Ranch Chamber of Commerce, Board Member; Hazel Vicenec, Mill Vista Lodge Resident; Debra Doyle, Erickson Living Chief Operating Officer; Irwin Steiner, Mill Vista Lodge Resident; and Jeffrey Richardson, Wind Crest Continuing Care Administrator Mill Vista Lodge incorporates the integrated health care model developed by Erickson Living, the manager and developer of Wind Crest.  Full-time physicians, electronic medical records and training for all employees serving residents in the continuing care neighborhood have resulted in geriatric health care metrics that exceed national averages across the Erickson enterprise. The project is also a major job creator in Denver as more than 100 employees will be hired to serve residents and guests.  The positions range from health care professionals (registered nurses and certified nurse's aides) to concierge, programming, maintenance and food service employees.  Mill Vista Lodge and Wind Crest are helping to meet the demand for continuing care in the Colorado market.  The second quarter of 2013, according to senior housing trade reports,  logged 8,840 units of various types of senior housing and care planned and under development in Colorado ranging from age-restricted, for-sale homes to skilled nursing, according to market research firm The Highland Group. Nationally, construction vs. inventory stood at 2.8% as of the second quarter of 2013, according to data from the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industry. Memory care development is on a torrential upswing in Colorado with future demand expected to far outpace current supply. The more than 1,400 units planned and under construction will expand existing inventory by about 73%, indicates second quarter data from Denver, Colorado-based The Highland Group.
