Three Seabrook Residents Cycle, Lift and Pump Their Way Into Special Club

TINTON FALLS, NJ - The benefits of exercise and fitness for older adults are tremendous, but there can also be "star power" attributed to it - at least at Seabrook. Three residents - Culver Hayes, Joe Koenig and Bob Zitch are all part of an elite club where in one place, everybody knows their name. The 3,000 Workout Club.

Each gentleman has achieved at least 3,000 workouts in the Seabrook Fitness Center since he has moved into the community. Seabrook opened its doors in 1998. "I'm at the gym by seven o'clock every day and I love it!" Mr. Koenig said. "I work out six days a week and it keeps me going. It's a big part of my life." Mr. Hayes used to be a jogger and now works out in the fitness center most days. He said it makes him feel good when he gets his workout in. "It gets my muscles going and clears my head," he said. "Without it I feel sluggish. I really love the Seabrook Fitness Center." "When I exercise I'm set for the day," Mr. Zitch said. "I'm at the fitness center six days a week and alternate between aerobics and weights. When I don't go I miss it and fortunately I haven't missed it many times." According to Seabrook Wellness Manager Judy Seger, when a resident joins the free fitness center, they receive an individual fitness evaluation on a specialized development program. There  are so many benefits to working out for the older adult," Judy said. "Here in the fitness center there are many opportunities for our residents to get fit and healthy and fortunately so  many of them take advantage of what we have to offer." The Seabrook Fitness Center has specifically designed equipment for the older adult in mind and more than 350 residents take utilize the machines available to them. There are clubs that recognize residents for 100, 500 and 1,000 workouts in the fitness center. When a residents achieves 100 workouts they get their photo taken and it goes on the wall, fellow residents in the fitness center take a moment to applaud them and then they receive a Seabrook Fitness Center shirt.
