Spring events for seniors in Baltimore

Springtime is marked by beautiful weather, sunny skies and an abundance of fresh buds sprouting all around. Seniors living in Baltimore retirement communities who are looking for the perfect opportunity to bask in the sun this season have a number of options, as several events centered around spring will be taking place in the area.

FlowerMart returns first weekend in May
From May 2 to May 3, residents of Baltimore will be able to visit the FlowerMart, which boasts a number of free and fun activities relating to spring. According to the event's website, FlowerMart 2014 is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. both days, and will include retail booths, competitions, local foods and an abundance of flowers. Several local citizens will be selling homemade goods, including pottery, jewelry, scarves, soaps and handbags. Vendors and attendees are invited to gather in the parks of Mt. Vernon, near the Washington Monument.

The highlight of the event will be the various breeds of flowers featured, including trays of annuals and perennials and decorative hanging pots. Local growers will display their best buds and offer plants for purchase. Additionally, there are several contests attendees can participate in. The Over the Top Fabulous Hat Contest allows people to display their creative skills, while the Pet Contest permits their animals to prance around.

In addition, people can enjoy the local food and drink. Representatives from Linganore Winecellars will be in attendance, showcasing their impressive selection of wines, while several of the city's food trucks will offer tasty fare.

Springfest kicks off this weekend
For seniors looking for the perfect event for the family, consider taking the grandchildren to the Springfest in Ocean City. This event kicks off May 1 and runs through May 4, featuring a number of famous artists, including The Morrison Brothers Band, The Patty Reese Band and Merle Haggard. According to its site, Springfest marks the beginning of beach season, inviting people from around the state to enjoy the sparkling sands by participating in fun activities.

In addition to live music, visitors can experience the bustling boardwalk, enjoy local eateries, indulge in nature excursions and browse the boutiques. For seniors who bring along the grandchildren, don't forget to drop by the amusement park rides on the boardwalk, which also boasts arcades, walking performers and games.
