'Free Fun Fridays' Begin June 27 for Massachusetts residents

Free Fun Fridays are coming back to Massachusetts with even more locations and attractions than last summer. Organized by the Highland Street Foundation, 66 art and culture institutions around the state will offer free admission on various Fridays from June to August. It's a wonderful way for active seniors to spend time with grandkids while they're on summer vacation, and many of the attractions are conveniently located near Massachusetts retirement communities.

This is the sixth year of the event and it keeps growing. The number of participating locations has increased by 10 or more every year. Some of the new venues for 2014 are Historic Deerfield, the Griffin Photography Museum and the Falmouth Museum on the Green. Executive director Blake Jordan told Boston Magazine that the summer-long event had 165,000 attendees in 2013, but this year's goal is 200,000 visitors.

Five of the locations require tickets in advance, so be sure to contact them if you plan to go. Those venues are the New Repertory Theatre, the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center, the Boston Harbor Alliance, the Freedom Trail Foundation, and the Reagle Music Theatre. It's also important to note that the Reagle Theatre doesn't admit kids under the age of 5. Keep in mind that you may still have to pay for parking at some of these sites.
