Ashby Ponds Bundles Up for Annual Turkey Trot, Benefitting Backpack Buddies

Ashby Ponds raised $1500 to benefit Backpack Buddies this year from the annual turkey trot! The unseasonable chill in the air didn’t stop residents and staff from participating in the annual Ashby Ponds turkey trot on Wednesday, November 19!   Members of the Ashburn retirement community bundled up for a morning walk around the campus with one goal in mind; to help area children in need.

As a result of the participation, Ashby Ponds raised $1500 to benefit Backpack Buddies, a program which aims to end childhood hunger in Loudoun County.   According to their website, the program “provides weekend, summer, and holiday meal packs to Loudoun County students receiving free or reduced-price school meals.”

Each year, the event is coordinated by Wellness Coordinator, Gina Muaau, and the outdoor walk is led by a costumed turkey!
