Resident Jan Madden and Gilbey, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, trotted down the runway at the 2013 Halloween Pet Parade. They will again delight the audience at the 2014 Holiday Pet Parade!WHAT:  More than 30 dogs will join this year’s Holiday Pet Parade!  Participating dogs are those of Greenspring residents, family members, staff, and special invited guests.  Some of the dogs include:

  • AKC Grand Champion, Dulcinea, a wire-coated Ibizan Hound
  • AKC champion of record, Betty, a Komondor (who received an invitation to the prestigious Westminster dog show in February)
  • Delilah, a Spinone Italiano, whose “mom” works as a photographer for the Fairfax County Animal Shelter
  • Abe, a Xoloitzcuintli, one of the oldest and rarest dog breeds
  • Two “gentle giant” Newfoundlands
  • …and a variety of other wonderful dogs donning holiday attire including a mini Goldendoodle, a Boxer, a Shetland Sheepdog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and many more!

This is Greenspring’s 11th Annual Pet Parade, but the first held during the winter holiday season!  Past parades have been held in recognition of Halloween.  The parade is sponsored by the Dogs of Greenspring, a resident-run and resident-coordinated social group on campus.  Residents are welcome to have dogs at Greenspring; the community features miles of walking paths and its own “Bark Park” supporting dog (and owner!) socialization.
