(Ashburn, Va) - On Monday, February 16, eight residents from Ashby Ponds had the opportunity to tour the WUSA9 television station and studio in northwest Washington, D.C.  WUSA9, the CBS affiliate in the nation's capital, was the first television station in the Washington, D.C. market to begin broadcasting in high-definition in 2005.

The residents who participated in the WUSA9 tour are members of the videography group at the community; the group regularly records programs and events for airing on the in-house television station.  The group is now preparing for the debut of a brand new television studio at Ashby Ponds, which will be one of the many new community amenities in the Great Oak Clubhouse opening this spring.

The tour at WUSA9 included guided access to areas such as the control room, the studio, the outdoor weather patio, and the newsroom.  The residents had the opportunity to sit in-studio to watch the live noon news broadcast and watch the meteorologists at work using the green screen.  While at WUSA9, the group enjoyed meeting news anchor Andrea Roane, meteorologists Howard Bernstein and Topper Shutt, and reporter Debra Alfarone.
