Artists Truly Inspire at Eagle’s Trace

Houston, TX--The 70-acre campus of Eagle’s Trace is known for its meticulously manicured grounds featuring lovely bluebonnets and colorful flowers.

But there’s more than a gorgeous landscape that brightens the Erickson Living retirement community.  Dozens of talented residents are part of a vibrant group of artists who pursue their passions.

The beautiful works of these illustrators, painters, sculptors, woodworkers and more are regularly displayed in showcases and the Arts & Crafts studio.

It’s in the studio where residents take advantage of a convenient location to store supplies and unleash their creativity.

Eagle’s Trace offers art classes as part of its programming, many taught by residents who generously share their time and expertise with their neighbors.

Lisa Hadley is the community resources coordinator at Eagle’s Trace.  She noted the wide variety of media utilized by residents.  “We are blessed that our residents are eager to broaden their horizons when it comes to artistic pursuits,” stated Ms. Hadley.  “Many take watercolor, oil painting and even Zentangle classes.  Our woodworkers, quilters and needlework artists are also very open-hearted with special projects that benefit local charities.”

These artists are recognized beyond Eagle’s Trace.

In May, resident Norm Stoecker won second place in the LeadingAge Texas 2015 ArtsInspire competition for his woodwork entry.  The competition featured hundreds of nominations from Texans who live in retirement communities throughout the Lone Star State.  Eagle’s Trace residents Louise Baldaro, Merrilyn Meushaw, Margaret Morris and Richard Schwarz also earned honorable mention status for their submissions.

In October, Eagle’s Trace will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a series of special events, including a resident art show.

“We’re very proud of our artists so we are always looking for opportunities to showcase their wonderful work for all to enjoy,” said Ms. Hadley.
