July 2: Oak Crest’s Parade of Veterans to Celebrate United States Independence

Parkville, MD—2015 has been a year of milestone anniversaries for some of our nation’s most enduring historical moments of the 20th century.

May 8 was the 70th anniversary of the Allies’ V-E (Victory Europe) Day for World War II.  June marked 65 years since the beginning of the Korean War.

Many military service men and women who are now residents of Oak Crest, the Erickson Living retirement community, served in the battlegrounds of Europe during World War II and fought near Korea’s infamous 38th parallel during the Cold War.

On Thursday, July 2nd at 11am, the Greatest Generation and beyond will participate in the Parade of Veterans, an annual tradition at Oak Crest that kicks-off the Independence Weekend celebration.

Led by a Color Guard, veterans of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard will be in attendance, many in uniform.  A patriotic ceremony, including music and recognition of each service branch, will follow.

Charles Pefinis, a resident of Oak Crest and a World War II veteran and author, will provide the keynote address.
