The McCoys' Move from Colorado to Tallgrass Creek Brought Them Closer to Their Beloved Horses

OVERLAND PARK, KS (June 15, 2015) – When Sharon and Glenn McCoy moved from Colorado to Tallgrass Creek retirement community in Overland Park, Kansas, it brought them much closer to their two award-winning Morgan horses stabled in nearby Lenexa. Their mutual love of horses started when they were children.

"I'm pretty sure the first word I said was 'horse',” laughs Sharon.

The McCoys have traveled the country for the last 40 years showing Morgan horses and earned multiple awards and world championship honors. Their horses are trained to compete in several different divisions including one where the animals, using a proud, upright stance, pull carts. Sharon and Glenn has each been the driver in those competitions.

"It is a bit of an unusual hobby, I suppose," says Glenn. "Our daughter got us into it when she was young and we've continued enjoying the horses over the years."

Their horses go by the names Buffy and Pippi.

The couple has no plans to show their horses in the future but will spend time each week watching them train.

"It's good just to be near them again," says Sharon.

Glenn retired after 35 years as a healthcare professional with Cerner Corporation, a Kansas City-based, worldwide supplier of healthcare technology. Sharon taught school for 35 years and her career included teaching gifted, elementary-age children.
