Tallgrass Creek Server Thomas Tong Stars in Unicorn Theater Play

OVERLAND PARK, KS (August 31, 2015) – Thomas Tong, a server at Tallgrass Creek retirement  community, is excited to star as a monk in the play, The Oldest Boy, now on stage through September 20 at Unicorn Theater in Overland Park, KS.

Residents from Tallgrass Creek are thrilled about his thespian success, so much so that they are organizing ongoing shuttle bus trips to the theater to see his performances.

In the play when Tibetan monks believe they’ve found the reincarnation of a high Buddhist Lama as a young American boy, his parents must decide whether to hold tight to their son or send him to India for a life of spiritual training. In this richly emotional journey filled with humor and compassion (featuring the imaginative puppetry of Paul Mesner), a family must make one life-altering choice.

Tong is a recent graduate from the University of Kansas where he majored in Theatre, with an emphasis on Performance. There, he was cast in many varied shows such as The Big Meal, Dog Sees God, and Kiss Me, Kate.

He also had a play of his that he wrote performed as part of their season. He has done some community theatre shows at Theatre Lawrence such as South Pacific and The Explorers Club.

He plans to venture into the theatre outlets that Kansas City has to offer for a year and then go off to Chicago. He is also a playwright and a screenwriter on the side.
