Community Partnerships of Oak Crest Benefit Two Holiday Charities

Parkville, MD—Residents of Oak Crest retirement community partnered with local businesses as they continued traditions of “giving back” to benefit two holiday charities.
 
On November 24, fifty residents transformed Oak Crest into “Santa’s Workshop” as they filled four hundred stockings with toys, games, school supplies and other items to benefit Baltimore-area children in need during the holidays.
 
The loaded stockings will be distributed by the Salvation Army at their Hampden center in December.  Oak Crest residents and the Lady Elks raised over $4,500 for the project in the fall, and the Dollar Tree Store on Ebenezer Road in Perry Hall was a valued partner.
 
Ms. Ann France, a resident of Oak Crest and an Executive Board Member of the Baltimore Area Command Women’s Auxiliary, coordinated the effort which is in its twentieth year at the retirement community.
 
Earlier in the month, residents and employees teamed up with the Nottingham Square Chick-fil-A to support Operation Christmas Child, an annual project of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.  Over one hundred (100) plastic containers filled with backpacks, school supplies, hygiene items, small toys and clothing will be shipped to needy children around the world.
 
A committee chaired by resident NancyLee DeGreif continued this service tradition that originally began in 2012 by Audrey Brodbeck, who passed away earlier in the year.  More information can be found at www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
