Maris Grove Veterans Celebrate President’s Day with Special Guests

Residents Take Time to Commemorate the People Who Have Led Our Country

GLEN MILLS, PA— On Monday, February 15, 2016, over 100 residents participated in a unique President’s Day program hosted by the Veterans Club at Maris Grove. Several special guests were part of the community’s tribute to the presidents of the United States, including George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

The ceremony started with the Valley Forge Military Academy and College Color Guard presenting our nations flags accompanied by two cadets singing the national anthem. Following the opening, the Military Academy’s drum core performed.

“I think I speak for everyone when I say, the color guard and drummers were nothing short of terrific,” said Joe Abelson, President of the Maris Grove Veteran’s Club. “It’s an honor for us at Maris Grove to interact with the future leaders and veterans of our country here on this President’s Day.”

U.S. Army Colonel William Gallagher (Ret.), the Military College Dean, served as the guest speaker for the program. Col. Gallagher noted the importance of our past presidents and went on to discuss the sacrifices they made to shape the country into what we are today. Col. Gallagher specifically mentioned Washington and Lincoln as prime examples of great leaders in our countries history.

Col. Gallagher also touched on the bright future of the country and praised his cadets on their hard work. “Talking about our young people, specifically at Valley Forge, the perseverance they have is incredible, which is a big reason you can rest assured that the country’s future is in good hands,” said Col. Gallagher.
