Greenspring Hosts 14th Annual Community Art Show

SPRINGFIELD, Va. – Greenspring, a senior living community developed and managed by Erickson Living, held its fourteenth annual Art Show over a two-day period last week, June 28-29, 2018. The show, which attracted nearly 500 attendees, featured work from 42 resident and staff artists.

The theme for this year’s show was the butterfly. “We chose the butterfly because it is a natural work of art, and it is viewed around the world as a symbol representing endurance, change, hope and life,” explained Janelle Cesari, a Community Resources Coordinator at Greenspring.

Artwork on display included fabric art, sculpture, ceramics, acrylic painting, oil painting, watercolor and photography. Art plays a prominent role among Greenspring’s more than 185 resident-run clubs, including the Visual Arts Group, which plans art classes and lectures on campus. The Visual Arts Group also plays an important role with Greenspring’s Art Wall, which showcases a different artist’s work every two months. Each time the Art Wall changes, the community hosts a reception so that residents and staff can meet the featured artist.

Other art program features enjoyed by resident artists include three on-site craft rooms, including one with a kiln, as well as the opportunity to learn from and be inspired by one another while exploring their creative side and developing their talents.

The annual Art Show is a celebration of these artists and the transformative power of their gifts and hard work. Like the butterfly, their art enhances the beauty of our environment and community.
