Finding Value, Active Retirement at Ashby Ponds

Ashburn, Virginia— The idea of moving to a continuing care retirement community appealed to Charles and Eileen Duggan. When the couple began to explore options, they each had a unique knowledge set to tap.

Charles had been a certified public accountant (CPA), serving in auditing and financial management positions within the equipment leasing industry. Following her career, Eileen volunteered with several senior advocacy organizations, including a stint as Vice-Chair of the Fairfax County Commission on Aging.

Ashby Ponds Celebrates Student Scholars Class of 2019

Ashburn, Virginia— Ashby Ponds honored the 27-member Student Scholars Class of 2019 during its Annual Award Ceremony on May 20. The employees, members of the Dining Services Department, earned four-year collegiate scholarships in the amount of $7,000.

More than $134,000 was raised during the 2019 campaign, funded primarily through resident contributions and pledges, according to Elisabeth Longworth, Philanthropy Manager for the Erickson Living retirement community. Since the inception of the Ashby Ponds Scholars’ Fund in 2009, 117 students have been awarded a scholarship.

Five Questions with…Ashby Ponds Resident Rose Pryor

Rose Pryor has lived at Ashby Ponds with her husband Charles approaching four years. The couple moved from Springfield, Virginia, and at one time, lived overseas in Germany and England.

Rose is a self-taught artist whose select work was displayed this spring in the gallery of the Great Oak Clubhouse. She enjoys a variety of media, including watercolor, acrylic, colored pencils, ceramics and even Zentangle.

Ashburn, Virginia-- By the numbers, the Home Expo held at Ashby Ponds on April 25 was a resounding success.

The event drew more than 250 guests to the continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living. They toured 13 apartment homes in the beautiful Birch Point and Cypress Ridge residential buildings, showcasing a variety of floor plans, styles and custom features that match all tastes and budgets, and received a first-hand look at the amenities offered in the Great Oak Clubhouse.

Ashburn, Virginia— Ashby Ponds, an Erickson Living retirement community in Loudoun County, has named Will Nance as Executive Director.

Mr. Nance joined Erickson Living in 1998 with an extensive background in sales, politics and nonprofits. He spent six years as the Sales Director at Greenspring, a sister community in northern Virginia, before moving into operations serving as Associate Executive Director for two years and as Executive Director for four years. In 2011, he was promoted to Regional Vice President of Sales for Erickson Living.

Ashby Ponds Residents Contribute More Than $245,000 to Hourly Staff for a Job Well Done

Ashburn, Virginia— Whether it’s preparing for a holiday concert or serving a meal in one of the campus restaurants, the hourly employees of Ashby Ponds are being thanked for a job well done.

Their service and dedication are recognized through the Erickson Living retirement community’s Staff Appreciation Fund. The 2018 campaign was incredibly successful, raising $245,700 from mainly resident contributions. This total included gifts received from the resident-led Woodworking Club, Drama Club, Bingo Committee and Treasure Chest, as well as from 20 families with loved ones at Maple Grove, the community’s continuing care neighborhood.

Devoted to the moral, spiritual, and intellectual growth of residents, Farmwell Hall is named after the 19th century Loudoun County log house of the same name.
