Ashby Ponds Residents Donate Over $182,000 to Staff Appreciation Fund

(Ashburn, Virginia) - This year, residents at Ashby Ponds donated $182,949 to the community’s Staff Appreciation Fund. The annual campaign is organized each year as a way for the residents to say “thank you” to employees who provide a variety of resident services at the community.

At Ashby Ponds, eligible employees may include the community’s wait staff, security officers, communication and administrative staff, banquet servers, maintenance workers, culinary team members, housekeepers, and the special projects crew, among others. Members of the generation that lived and loved Frank at Ashby Ponds retirement community in Ashburn will celebrate “ Sinatra Week ” in his honor, December 7-11. A veteran of two wars, Russell Langelle took the controls of the same model plane he flew some 70 years ago

(Ashburn, Virginia) – When Ashby Ponds resident Russell Langelle turned 93 years young in October, his daughter and son-in-law presented him with an unforgettable gift. Langelle was given the gift of flight in the very same aircraft model he flew during WWII as a Navy pilot and primary flight instructor. With the oversight of a copilot, he spent nearly an hour in the air performing acrobatics he had learned over 70 years ago.

The discussions have included school administrators from northern Virginia jurisdictions, professionals in higher education, and this year, students and graduates working in STEM fields. (Ashburn, Va.) - On Monday, November 16th, residents and staff at Ashby Ponds retirement community participated in their annual Turkey Trot to help children in Loudoun County. This year, the community raised and donated $2000 to the Backpack Buddies program.

The Ashburn retirement community hosts the annual dog show in honor of Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month

(Ashburn, Va.) – On October 8th, Ashby Ponds retirement community hosted their second annual Ashby Ponds Canine Cup dog show. Nearly one dozen four-legged members of the Ashby Ponds community paraded around the Great Oak Lawn and into the hearts of spectators and guest judges. In partnership with Loudoun County Animal Services, the community hosted the Canine Cup in honor of Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month (October) and collected new and unused toys, treats, and food for the local Loudoun County Animal Shelter.

(Ashburn, Virginia) – The Virginia Tech Creative Learning Academy for Senior Scholars (VT CLASS) has partnered with Ashby Ponds for an eight-week program focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) research and innovation. The program, called VT CLASS-Tech Institute, began on September 30th with a field trip to the Occoquan Watershed to explore environmental engineering technologies.
