Residents of the Ashburn, Va. senior community pose "creatively" for a cause close to their hearts. (ASHBURN, VIRGINIA) - The idea was born during a resident happy hour one night in July 2010; to produce a calendar to raise money for the community's Benevolent Care Fund.  But this wouldn't be just any calendar; each month features "creatively" posed residents at the community who participate in a variety of clubs such as the Garden Club, the Dog Walkers, the Songbirds, and so on. WHAT:  Bill "Perfessor" Edwards  will be performing a mix-up of movie shorts, ragtime, and sing-a-longs at the Ashby Ponds retirement community.   In 1986, Bill moved from the West Coast to the Washington, D.C. area and ended up spending eight years playing for the Fish Market restaurant and entertainment venue, and has played everything from Jazz to Classical to Rock in other venues around the Nation's Capitol. Blessing of the Animals at Ashby Ponds

WHAT: Blessing of the Animals, sponsored by Galilee Methodist Church (Sterling, Va.), at Ashby Ponds retirement community.  There are 600 residents at the community and about 80 cats and dogs who also call Ashby Ponds home.  Historically, the blessing of the animals has been held on October 4 in honor of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and ecology. WHAT: Congressman Frank Wolf and Supervisor Lori Waters will join Ashby Ponds residents in dedicating a monument commemorating the years of service by veterans at the community. Retirement Community Residents Help Make Going Back to School Easier
