Senior Athletes Inspire at 2015 Ashby Ponds Summer Olympics

(Ashburn, VA) – Ashby Ponds retirement community recently hosted their 7th Annual Summer Olympics in Ashburn, Va. Since 2009, residents of the community have come together each summer to participate in a variety of sporting events vying for gold, silver, and bronze medals. More than 215 residents competed in this year’s competition, with many participating and medaling in multiple events.

“We encourage everyone to come out, have fun, meet new friends, and be a part of a team, regardless of their fitness level,” said Gina Muaau, Wellness Coordinator at Ashby Ponds.

Ashby Ponds’ Retired Educators Donate School Supplies to Area Children

(Ashburn, Va.) - As teachers, parents, and children prepare for the start of another school year, residents at Ashby Ponds are doing their part to make the transition a little easier. For the past six years, a group of retired educators and former school employees at Ashby Ponds has provided school supplies to students headed back to the classroom. The group, inclusive of more than 75 residents, collects funds and buys school supplies based on lists distributed by Loudoun County and Fairfax County.

(Ashburn, Va.) – On July 28, Ashby Ponds, one of 18 Erickson Living retirement communities, hosted a Diversity Day program, providing resid ents and staff the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the various heritages, beliefs, and characteristics that makes each individual at the community unique. Green Thumbs Abound at Ashby Ponds

(Ashburn, Va.) - On July 15, residents at Ashby Ponds retirement community hosted their annual open house showcasing the gardens at the campus. There are more than 80 individual garden plots and garden troughs maintained by the residents, as well as a butterfly garden. A variety of flowers, herbs, and vegetables can be found throughout the garden from sunflowers and marigolds to lavender, tomatoes, and peppers!

Local Students to Receive $68,000 in Scholarships from Ashby Ponds

(Ashburn, Va.) - On Sunday, July 19, 17 area students will be recognized as recipients of scholarships toward higher education from Ashby Ponds retirement community. The recipients, who work for the community’s Dining Services department, will receive up to $4000 (or $500 per semester) in scholarships paid directly to the college or trade school of the student’s choice. The 2015 scholarship recipients include five local college students, 11 2015 graduates of Loudoun County high schools, and one 2015 graduate of a Fairfax County high school. (Ashburn, Va.) - On Saturday, June 20, Ashby Ponds families enjoyed the community’s annual Father’s Day Fishing Tournament. The fourth annual fishing tournament took place at Fisherman’s Pond, located on the Ashby Ponds campus. Residents and staff joined together with their families to enjoy great food and fishing at the tournament. A total of 41 participants took part in the event this year with 33 fish being caught and released back into the pond. (Ashburn, Va.) - Ashby Ponds residents Sam and Robin Rentsch are proud owners of a 1930 blue Model A Ford phaeton. As part of the George Washington Chapter of the Model A Ford Club of America (GWC MAFCA), Sam rode along in his Model A during the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Parade held in Washington, D.C. on April 11.
