- Ashby Ponds woodworkers and bluebird box monitors joined together near one of the donated boxes at One Loudoun on Thursday, May 15.
(Ashburn, Va.) - Six handmade wood bluebird boxes were recently installed at One Loudoun in the Central Park area. The boxes were crafted from scratch by residents in the Ashby Ponds woodworking club, which keeps busy with projects in the retirement community's dedicated wood shop. On Thursday, May 15, the One Loudoun community recognized the residents for their hard work and donation to the development during the One Loudoun Barn Dedication.
More than two dozen residents were on hand for the Barn Dedication ceremony, where Bill May, Vice President of Miller & Smith and Managing Director of One Loudoun, thanked them for their efforts.
"I'd like to thank the Ashby Ponds woodworking group who's here with us for building, donating, installing, and monitoring six bluebird boxes throughout our Central Park area next to the barn," said May. "These are great; thank you so much."
A group of residents from Ashby Ponds will work throughout the bluebird nesting season in monitoring the boxes in according with the Virginia Bluebird Society. They will watch for the cycle of nest building; laying, incubating, and hatching of the eggs; and the fledgling of baby bluebirds. Ashby Ponds residents are no strangers to bluebird monitoring; bluebird boxes are placed throughout the Ashby Ponds campus.
The Ashby Ponds retirement community is located just down the street from One Loudoun and is a great friend and neighbor to the development. During the holidays last year, nearly two dozen residents participated in a holiday caroling sing-along at One Loudoun's inaugural tree lighting ceremony and the community regularly receives visits from the One Loudoun team regarding development updates. Ashby Ponds looks forward to continuing their partnership with One Loudoun as both communities continue to expand in Ashburn.
