The calendar features a marriage of classic hits and favorite activities at the Ashburn retirement community; proceeds to benefit the community's resident care fund.
(Ashburn, Virginia) – More than a dozen popular resident-driven groups at Ashby Ponds retirement community in Ashburn posed for photos earlier this year all for a good cause—to benefit the community's Benevolent Care Fund (BCF).
Each month in the 2016 Ashby Ponds "Golden Oldies" calendar features a resident group humorously portraying a classic oldies tune. For instance, in May you'll find the community's Dog Walking Group depicting "How Much is That Doggie in the Window," in July you'll see the resident Poker Group portraying "The Gambler," and in August, you'll notice the Wii Bowling Group posed for "Lightnin' Strikes". Other groups featured include the Woodworking Club, the Bocce Group, the Ballroom, Square, and Line Dancing Clubs, the Garden Club, the Greeting Card Group, the Ceramics and Watercolors Groups, the Video Group, the "Ladies Out to Lunch" Group, and the Knitting and Sit n' Stitch groups.
"Our clubs and groups provide the inspiration behind all activity in the community," said Ashby Ponds staff member Debbie Cannatella, who coordinated production of the calendar alongside the resident groups. "With more than 140 clubs, committees, groups, and activities, there is something for every taste and every pace. The active lifestyle and diverse interests of our residents truly promote an atmosphere of celebrating life."
All proceeds from the sales of the calendar will benefit the BCF at Ashby Ponds, which provides support to residents who, despite careful planning, outlive their financial resources. Funds donated to BCF allow for residents experiencing financial adversity to continue living at Ashby Ponds, in their home, among their friends, receiving the care that they need.
In 2012, Ashby Ponds' seniors created their first calendar inspired by the movie "Calendar Girls," which featured "creatively" posed residents at the community participating in various clubs and activities. Sales from the 2012 calendar resulted in more than $6,800 for the BCF.
"This is a tribute to Ashby Ponds and all the talented people residing here on this beautiful campus," said Ashby Ponds resident Bernita Taylor, who was one of the driving forces supporting the 2016 calendar.
The first look, pre-sale distribution for the 2016 calendar took place at Ashby Ponds on Wednesday, November 11th. If you'd like to order a calendar, please contact Debbie Cannatella at firstname.lastname@example.org or 571-291-6006. Ashby Ponds operates as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
