There are many available treatments that claim to offer the key to anti-aging and longevity, and although some of them are popular, experts urge caution. Some of the treatments may not only be ineffective, but could also be harmful to healthy aging, according to U.S. News and World Report.
Some of the most common anti-aging treatments involve what experts refer to as "vitamin cocktails." The treatments often come in the form of intravenous transfusions and include numerous vitamins but have not shown any considerable health benefits. In fact, too much vitamin A is linked to osteoporosis and too much vitamin B may be connected to nerve damage.
"You really have to be careful," Loren Schechter, chairman of the patient safety committee for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, told the news provider. "There are a lot of extravagant claims out there that simply don't check out when you look at the science."
While vitamin cocktails may not be a cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle for seniors, some dietary changes can have a significant impact. Getting vitamins through fruits and vegetables will yield substantial benefits, and foods like poultry and fish are good substitutes for red meat.
