Peabody, MA – – When Ron and Maureen D'Addario began contemplating a move from their home of 44 years in Reading, Mass., they thought they might be too young for a retirement community.
Both in their early seventies, the D'Addarios initially considered moving to a condo for those over 55.
"It didn't take us long to figure out that would require two moves," says Ron, who taught auto mechanics at Winchester High School. "We didn't want to move once to a condo, and, a few years later, move again to a retirement community."
The couple decided to skip the intermediate step and move directly to Brooksby Village, an Erickson Living retirement community in Peabody, MA.
"There's no need to wait to move to Brooksby Village," says Suzanne Davis, sales director at Brooksby Village. "Moving sooner rather than later allows residents to enjoy an active, vibrant lifestyle for as long as possible."
Ahead of their move, Ron and Maureen's primary consideration was the sale of their Reading home.
"There are so many things that require your attention when you own a house," says Ron. "Although I enjoyed working around my home, my body began to show its age with routine maintenance, unexpected repairs, mowing the lawn in the summer, and shoveling snow in the winter. We were ready for a lifestyle that freed us from these chores."
Brooksby Village offers maintenance-free living, where all the work of keeping up a home is shouldered by capable, service-oriented employees.
The D'Addarios moved to the Peabody community in January 2018, as winter maintained a firm grip on New England.
"Once we were settled, we began to realize other benefits of moving to Brooksby sooner rather than later," says Maureen. "All the onsite amenities – the swimming pool, fitness center, restaurants, pharmacy, bank – are icing on the cake. We didn't realize how nice it would be to have them available to us right here on campus."
Social engagement has proven to be another powerful factor in the D'Addarios experience at Brooksby Village.
"We've met and talked with so many interesting people since we've been here," says Ron. "If we were living in a condo, we wouldn't be engaging with people the way we are at Brooksby. The social interaction is very beneficial for our mental health."
"I consistently hear from residents who wished they'd moved to the community," said Davis. "For a healthy, active, and financially-secure retirement, there's no better place than Brooksby Village!"
"We couldn't agree more," echoed Ron and Maureen.
