Cedar Crest Seniors "Flash" for Volunteers: YouTube Link Attached

April 17, 2014

POMPTON PLAINS, NJ - Some Cedar Crest residents were in for a bit of a surprise as they dined in the community's Woodland Commons Clubhouse Conference Center for a special Volunteer Recognition Breakfast.
With April being National Volunteer Recognition Month, Cedar Crest held the special breakfast for volunteers who make such a difference inside and outside the community. Then things got interesting in a flash! A flash mob to be exact (SEE EXCITING YOUTUBE VIDEO HERE: http://tiny.cc/vpvgex).
As Cedar Crest Executive Director Cathy Guttman addressed the crowd of volunteers, a group of approximately 15 residents, and one staffer, interrupted her, moved up to the dance floor, wearing bright yellow neon shirts, and assembled into a "flash mob" where they danced for approximately five minutes for the volunteers.
"The dance was a fun and inventive way to celebrate the beneficence that takes place here within our walls and outside in the local community by so many of our compassionate residents," said Cathy Guttman. "Whether it's working at the local schools, hospital or food pantry, the folks who live here at Cedar Crest truly make a difference in the lives of so many and the good work they do is what defines being part of a real community."
In 2013, Cedar Crest volunteers logged an astonishing 54,000 hours of volunteer service. Some of the places that the volunteers donate their time, include:

  • Various local schools/participate in School Boards/Education
  • Chilton Hospital
  • Pequannock Food Pantry, and other local food pantries
  • Meals on Wheels
  • CUMAC (Center of United Aid to the Community)
  • The Salvation Army
  • Charity work for various Veterans/active military organizations
  • Healing the Children
  • Churches and temples

The Cedar Crest Flash Mob YouTube video was shot on several cameras and edited together by Larry Curran and Mike Dygos from the Cedar Crest Community Television Department.
