Play Ball! Charlestown Residents to Compete in Regional Softball Tournament

CATONSVILLE, MD  (June 4, 2013) --  Charlestown retirement community residents will compete tomorrow, June 5,  at Fairfield Athletic and Aquatics Center Field in Laurel, MD, in Erickson Living's  Annual Resident Softball Tournament. The tournament begins at noon. Two teams from the Baltimore area -- Charlestown in Catonsville and Oak Crest in Parkville -- will compete against two teams from the Washington, D.C.,  metro area -- Riderwood in Silver Spring and Greenspring in Springfield, VA. Charlestown residents have been practicing for the tournament on their campus' baseball field. Rumor has it their pitcher has a fastball that might make Baltimore Orioles...

Charlestown Resident Joseph Datsko Has Racked Up 120,000 Miles on His Bike -- and He is Still Going Strong

Charlestown retirement community resident Joseph Datsko has racked up more than 120,000 miles in the saddle of his bicycle during his lifetime  -- and he is still going strong. The nonagenarian rides nearly 100 miles each week, cycling at Patapsco State Park and doing multi laps daily around the 1.3 - mile loop road on the Charlestown campus in Catonsville, Maryland. Datsko, a retired University of Michigan professor, began cycling in the 1970s and joined the Ann Arbor Bicycling Touring Society. His five children and late wife Doris were also avid bikers. Charlestown Residents Make 110 'Summer Survival Packs' for Students

CATONSVILLE, MD (MAY 3, 2013) - Charlestown retirement community residents this week took advantage of National Volunteer Week by making 110 "summer survival packs" for children participating in Riverview Elementary School's summer programs. Nearly 300 residents hand-decorated the packs and filled them with crayons, sidewalk chalk, balls, jump ropes, play dough, old-fashioned wooden peg games, and a ball cup toss. Charlestown purchased fabric spray paint and set up an area for residents to safely work as the packs were hung on hooks and spray-painted. Each pack was finished off with a "Charlestown Cares" gift tag on which residents wrote notes of encouragement to students.

Erickson Living Names Matt Rosewag the Continuing Care Administrator for Charlestown

 CATONSVILLE, MD (April 10, 2013) - Erickson Living has named Matt Rosewag the Continuing Care Administrator for Charlestown Retirement Community in Catonsville, MD. He served previously as Continuing Care Administrator for Oak Crest in Parkville, MD. Rosewag began his career at Erickson Living-managed communities in 2000 at Oak Crest as a Physical Therapist. After two years there he transitioned to Riderwood in Silver Spring, MD, as the Rehabilitation Manager to help the start up process in Continuing Care. He later became an Administrator-in-Training and returned to Oak Crest in 2007 as the Assistant Administrator. Rosewag assumed the role of Administrator in 2011.

CATONSVILLE, MD (March 21, 2013) -- Charlestown residents are now making their individualized kites for an upcoming Saturday, April 13, Kite Flying Contest on their Catonsville campus. They will be joined by nearly 100 students from area schools - inclusive of Our Lady of Victory, Riverview and Lansdowne -- who are also now making their own kites. Charlestown Collection Donates More Than 15,000 Books

CATONSVILLE, MD (March 21, 2013) -- Charlestown retirement community residents, staff and future residents this week donated more than 15,000 books to Books for International Goodwill. The project, which was held under the auspices of the Charlestown Rotary Fellowship, also resulted in $205 in monetary donations. A 16-foot U-Haul truck filled with thousands of pounds of books left the Charlestown campus in Catonsville. All genres of books -- including biography, poetry, fiction, and nonfiction -- were donated. Charlestown Residents Play Miniature Golf Indoors as Snowstorm Approaches Outside

CATONSVILLE, MD (March 6, 2013) - Residents of Charlestown retirement community in Catonsville participated a miniature golf tournament inside their community as a massive snowstorm formed in the Midwest and began to head to the Mid-Atlantic with predicted 5-10 inches of accumulation for Central Maryland. Members of the on-site woodshop at Charlestown designed and built their own indoor miniature golf course.
