CATONSVILLE, MD (January 24, 2016) -- The record-setting Blizzard of 2016 that dumped 29.2 inches of snow in the Baltimore metropolitan area had no impact on Charlestown retirement community's 2,100 residents.
Many dedicated General Services employees volunteered to stay overnight Friday, January 22, and Saturday, January 23, working nonstop to dig out snow at the 110-acre Charlestown campus in Catonsville. The community as of Sunday afternoon, January 24, was safe for driving and walking.
Operations at Charlestown were never disrupted by the blizzard. Staff from virtually all departments volunteered to stay overnight Friday, January 22, and Saturday, January 23, to assist in dining and housekeeping, as well as in health services.
"This was a true team effort by our staff," said Mel Tansill, Public Affairs Manager. "Their dedication and commitment to the well-being of our residents was exemplary, especially when considering they took time away from their own families."
