Employees, residents collect 40 boxes of school supplies
CATONSVILLE, MD---With the upcoming school year less than two weeks away, school shopping season is in full swing. However, for less fortunate families, it can be a challenge to prepare their children for class.
Beginning on July 16th, residents and employees of Charlestown, the Erickson Living retirement community, partnered to collect an assortment of new supplies including pencils, highlighters, pocket folders and backpacks at three locations throughout the campus.
It was all part of the community's Annual Christmas In July project sponsored by the employee-led Charlestown Erickson Living Values Team and the Charlestown Rotary Fellowship resident group.
All told, forty boxes of supplies were delivered in a Charlestown shuttle bus to Riverview Elementary School on August 6th.
"Our committee plans numerous events for employees of Charlestown throughout the year, and this project is just one way that we can support the surrounding community," described Emily Fowler, Human Resources Manager. "The school supplies collected benefit the children of today and the workforce of tomorrow."
"We are proud to work with Riverview Elementary," continued Ms. Fowler. "In this economy, our Christmas in July project helps families in need to focus their attention on other necessities such as food and clothing for their children."
