CATONSVILLE, MD (November 27, 2015) – Charlestown retirement community's 'Movember' Turkey Trot celebrated Men's Heath Month and resulted in a total of $1,800 being donated to the Westside Men's Shelter in Catonsville and Southwest Emergency Services in Arbutus. Ham and casserole were also donated.
Scores of Charlestown residents and staff walked November 18 through their campus' winding Nature Trail with a mystery guest Turkey (aka resident John Lorenz).
Westside Men's Shelter is a 100+ bed facility housing homeless men in Baltimore County. Its goal is to provide a safe and secure place for men to come to terms with their present situation and provide resources that will enable them to become self-sufficient. It is operated by Community Assistance Network, Inc. a 501(c) 3 organization, a member agency of Community Action Partnership.
Southwest Emergency Services, or SWES, was created 30 years ago by a member of Arbutus United Methodist. She began SWES as a way to give back to the local community. Families can go to SWES when they are in need of food, clothing, bill paying, or a hot shower.
