Dining Services Supervisor Shares His Poetry With Charlestown Residents

CATONSVILLE, MD (April 14, 2016)  -- Dining Services Supervisor and published poet Travis Shaw shares his inspirational poetry each month with residents of Charlestown retirement community. They are his muse, he said.

Shaw, who has been writing poetry for the past five years, has more than 200 poems on YouTube and his book "All Things are Possible with Him" has been published by Unlock Publishing House.

“The residents of Charlestown have been an inspiration to me,” he said. “My vision is to reach the multitude through poetry.  I was blessed with this gift and I am honored to have it.”

Shaw’s poetry has been received by the Vatican from which Pope Francis emailed Shaw, encouraging him to continue to write spiritual verses that touch the hearts and minds of people everywhere.

Shaw is a graduate of Woodlawn High School and Community College of Baltimore County. He shares his following poem in celebration of April National Poetry Month:

“Find Your Greatness”

Searching all over looking for greatness, greatness that possesses my destiny,

most people never find, most people stay confined.

I’ll travel to Norway to find my way just to look greatness in the eyes.

The key to the city is pretty but the key to greatness is worth wild. That mountain is high and a challenge to climb but nothing can’t confine me from the key to greatness.

The drive may be long and overwhelming at times but never settle for anything is the true prize, once I find where greatness lays I never knew it was inside.
