Charlestown Field of Honor Nets Record Proceeds for Charities

CATONSVILLE, MD (June 15, 2016) – The 1,000-flag Charlestown Field of Honor presented by Hubbard Funeral Home this past Memorial Day weekend resulted in record net proceeds in the amount of $18,757.26 being divided between Charlestown’s Benevolent Care Fund and Warfighter Sports, a nonprofit that provides adaptive sports to severely wounded veterans fee of cost.

 

This display of 1,000 American flags paid tribute to the hundreds of thousands of past and present American veterans who have served their country and to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Each flag was purchased by individuals and organizations to honor a military veteran.

 

More than 1,500 people visited the Field of Honor, which included a fireworks display and a 5K Run /Walk, the winners of which are listed below with their respective times noted:

 

Female: Laura Murray with a time of 25:47.

 

Male: Joseph Peacock with a time of 22:06.

 

Charlestown resident Sara Nixon, with a time of 37:37, won in the Top Resident category. Winners of the Top Male and Female Charlestown Employee category were Jim Hawes with a time of 31:50 and Emily Fowler with a time of 30:58.
