Charlestown employs top-quality medical providers at our on-site medical center. Each of our physicians specializes in senior health care, ensuring that every residents is receiving effective, personalized care.

Myla Carpenter, M.D.

Myla Carpenter, M.D.
Medical Director

Dr. Carpenter received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, and her medical degree from the University of California’s Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento, California. She completed her residency in internal medicine at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She is board-certified in internal medicine. Dr. Carpenter joined Charlestown in July 1998.

Deneen Bowlin, M.D.

Dr. Bowlin received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She received her medical degree and completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is board-certified in internal medicine. She joined Charlestown in July 2003.

Abebe S. Imiru, M.D.

Dr. Imiru received his certificate in internal medicine from New York Medical College at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center in Staten Island, New York. Prior to joining Charlestown, Dr. Imiru was a hospitalist and primary care physician at several Maryland hospitals, including Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly, Maryland; Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland; and most recently, Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland. He is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Imiru joined Charlestown in November 2014.

Ming Yi, M.D.

Dr. Yi brings over 15 years of senior health care experience to the Charlestown medical practice. A seasoned professional, she was previously a staff physician at St. Agnes Hospital, acting as the medical director for St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Caritas House Assisted Living, and St. Ann Adult Daycare. Dr. Yi completed her residency in internal medicine and her geriatric fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics. Dr. Yi joined Charlestown in July 2017.

Terry Tan, D.P.M.

Dr. Tan received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. She earned her medical degree in podiatric medicine from New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York, New York. She completed one podiatric residency at Catholic Medical Center/St. Joseph’s Hospital in Flushing, New York, and another at Jamaica Hospital in Jamaica, New York. She also completed a residency in podiatric surgery at Metropolitan Hospital in New York, New York. Dr. Tan joined Charlestown in July 2005.

Amy E. Mutch, C.R.N.P.

Ms. Mutch received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Carlow College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and her master’s degree from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. She is certified as a geriatric nurse practitioner and an adult nurse practitioner. She joined Charlestown in July 1998.

Ann Butterworth,C.R.N.P.

Ms. Butterworth received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. She received dual master’s degrees as a primary care adult nurse practitioner and gerontological nurse practitioner from the University of Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland. She joined Charlestown in October 1999.

Assiatu Barrie, F.N.P.C.-M.S.

Ms. Barrie received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Texas Woman’s University in Dallas, Texas. She is a certified family nurse practitioner. Ms. Barrie joined Charlestown in January 2014.

Hilda Lively, F.N.P.–B.C. 

Ms. Lively received both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in nursing from Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a certified family nurse practitioner. Ms. Lively joined Charlestown in April 2016.

Daina M. Buivys, A.P.R.N.-M.H.

Ms. Buivys received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland, and received her master’s degree from the University of Maryland Graduate School in Baltimore, Maryland. She is certified in adult psychiatric and mental health nursing. She joined Charlestown in August 2002.
