Watching the pros play in your own backyard

When the Honda Classic returns to PGA National Resort and Spa from February 24 to March 1, community members at Devonshire at PGA National, will enjoy easy access to the hottest ticket in town. 

A professional golf tournament founded in 1972 as Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic, the Honda Classic welcomes the world's top golfers and thousands of spectators each year for the popular PGA Tour event. 

"It's an exciting time for everyone at Devonshire," says Director of Sales Kathy McCrossin. "Many of our community members take full advantage of our location at PGA National to attend the tournament and quite a few volunteer their time helping out. And no one at Devonshire needs to worry about parking or traffic, as access to the course is just a short walk or shuttle ride from their front doors.

 "It's very common for our community members to host family and friends during the Honda Classic," McCrossin adds.

Private venue

As a Honda Classic sponsor, Devonshire hosts a private entertainment venue throughout the weeklong tournament. Set up at the beginning of the bear trap, near the fourteenth hole, invited guests of Devonshire, including priority list members, can relax and take in the world-class golfing while enjoying a variety of food and drink. 

For the last two years, members of the Devonshire priority list have received sought-after invitations to attend the Honda Classic from the comfort of the community's on-course venue.

"Many of our priority list members tell us that outside of reserving a future home at Devonshire, access to the Honda Classic is one of the premier perks of their membership," says McCrossin.

When the Honda Classic ends and the professional golfers head to their next stop on the PGA Tour—the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando—Devonshire community members continue to enjoy regular outings to PGA National's five championship courses. 

"I consider myself lucky to enjoy weekly golfing outings on the PGA National courses," says Nina Geilich, who is a member of the community's ladies golf group. "Unlike the pros, we don't play to win, but we play to have a good time and enjoy each other's company. And the fact that we can do that on a world-class course is tremendous."
