HOUSTON, TX--- Thanks to their affiliation with the Houston-area chapter of Project C.U.R.E., residents and employees of Eagle's Trace retirement community recently put new and gently-used medical supplies to good use.
Project C.U.R.E. is the registered trademark of the Benevolent Healthcare Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, humanitarian relief organization that collects medical supplies and equipment and donates the items to developing countries.
After distributing a shopping list of personal hygiene and first aid items at its campus, residents and employees of the Erickson Living community donated thirty-six collection boxes to the Project C.U.R.E. collection center in Houston on October 3rd. The supplies are slated to be shipped to Guatemala later in the month.
The connection with Project C.U.R.E. was embraced and coordinated by the Community Outreach Committee of Eagle's Trace.
"It's rewarding to know that the donations raised by Project C.U.R.E actually get to the people in developing nations who really need the basics of health care," stated Ms. Pat Osborne, a resident who leads the committee. "The process is simple, and I am proud of all those who participated at Eagle's Trace."
Founded in 1987, Project C.U.R.E is also uniquely positioned to respond to emergencies, the devastating earthquake in Haiti being a case in point. The organization has donated eighteen (18) containers of medical equipment and supplies, providing care to an estimated 324,000 people, with more help on the way. A typical container is the size of semi-truck trailers, holding approximately $400,000 in equipment.
