Eagle’s Trace Awards Collegiate Scholarships to Class of 2019

Houston, Texas—Graduation season commemorates the achievements of thousands of high school and college students in the Houston area.

On June 9, residents of Eagle’s Trace celebrated not only the success of ten students employed at the Erickson Living retirement community but also the special bonds created between generations.

These local students, members of the Dining Services Department of Eagle’s Trace, earned collegiate scholarships.  These four-year (eight semester) awards are worth $10,000 payable in increments each semester contingent upon the requirements of the program.

During the ceremony, it was announced that $95,400 was raised during the 2019 Student Scholarship Fund drive, mainly through the generous contributions from residents of Eagle’s Trace.  Former student scholar Chika Ihenakwe addressed this year’s class during a keynote speech.

Special appreciation is extended to the membership of the resident-led Scholarship Committee for their leadership: Philip Peter (chair), Angela Cinque, Dot Grissett, Walt Gale, Margaret Kennedy, Al Warner, JoAnn McLaughlin, Ruth Justice, Jim Gerhardt and Joe Ruddell.  Additionally, the following groups made donations to this year’s campaign: Treasure Chest, Jewels of Eagle’s Trace, Library Committee and the Students’ Car Wash.

Eagle’s Trace employs area high school and college students in its six dining venues on the wait staff and host teams.  To qualify for a scholarship, a student must work 1,000 hours during a two-year period, maintain good academic and professional standing and plan to attend a college, university or trade school on a full-time basis (12 credit hours per semester).
