Fox Run's Geri Angel is Newest Graduate of Lakes Area Citizens Police Academy

NOVI, MI (May 24, 2017) – Fox Run retirement community resident Geri Angel is the newest graduate of the Lakes Area Citizens Police Academy, having just completed a 12-week course presented by neighboring police departments in Novi, Wixom, South Lyon, Wolverine Lake, and Walled Lake.

Her classes, which were taught by lead police officers or detectives, included topics such as Communications and 911 Emergency Dispatch, K-9 Training, Fraud Investigation, and Crime Scene Investigation (where she, along with her 35 classmates, actually helped to solve a crime).

Angel, who has lived at Fox Run for the past five years, participated in Firearms Tactical Simulation and learned about the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad. She also went to a gun range and fired a pistol, hitting her target many times.

She rode along in a patrol car with a Novi police officer and she suited up with the Wixom Fire Department. In addition, she toured the Medical Examiner’s Office. Novi Police Department Chief David Molley, a longtime friend, encouraged her to take the class.

“I came away with a new found respect for those involved with police work,” said Angel, who once managed child care centers for a national child care provider for 30 years. “I also came away with a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

“I learned a lot about myself and my inner strength as this type of experience is far removed from any other of my past experiences,” she said.  “I will proudly stand up for any of our officers who put their life on the line every time they report for work.”

Angel is considering repeating he class again next year. She has already registered for a similar class to learn about the internal workings of government in the City of Novi, which begins in September.
