Meet the Greenspring Executive Leadership Team

The hard work and passion of these individuals power our Springfield senior living community to success.

Chandra Kumar, Executive Director

Chandra joined the Greenspring team in June of 2016 after serving as associate executive director at Riderwood in Silver Spring, Maryland. Chandra has over 20 years of experience in the senior living industry. Previously, she served as administrator for Friends House retirement community, as well as vice president for Amertel Communication. She also served as health care administrator and assisted living manager for Marriott Senior Living Services and its successor, Sunrise Senior Living. Chandra is the national cultural secretary for the Rajput Association of North America and past president of its DMV Chapter. She holds a B.S. in accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park, and an M.A. in management of aging services from the Erickson School of Aging at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Melissa Robson, Associate Executive Director

Melissa brings more than 24 years of strong clinical and leadership experience in acute care services to Greenspring. She recently served as a senior vice president with Novant UVA Health Systems. Prior roles at Novant included president, Novant Health in the Northern Virginia market and chief operating and chief nursing officer for Novant Health Rowan Regional Hospital in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Melissa holds a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree from Gardner Webb University in Charlotte, North Carolina and a master's degree in health administration from Pfeiffer University.

Tyshan “Ty” Wilson, Associate Executive Director

Before joining Greenspring, Ty served as the area director of operations in the higher education division of Aramark, a national food service provider. While he has more than 21 years of food and beverage experience in all sectors of the hospitality industry, including hotels and restaurants, health care, country clubs, and government and contract management, he began his career working at a continuing care retirement community in the New England area. Ty is a certified food safety professional and, previously, a certified executive chef. He is a member of the James Beard Foundation and the American Culinary Federation, and holds an A.A.S. in culinary arts, a B.S. in culinary nutrition, an M.B.A. in international business, and an M.S. in project management and supply chain management.

Cody Burns, Director of Finance

Cody started his career with Sodexo as an intern in college and upon completion of his degree joined as a financial analyst. He was quickly promoted to manager of finance, overseeing aspects of procurement accounting at Sodexo’s headquarters in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Cody then joined Erickson Living’s Riderwood community as the assistant director of finance, where he supported management of over a $100 million dollar annual budget, serving 2,500 residents. He holds a bachelor of science degree in financial economics with a minor in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. He is currently completing his master’s in business administration from Hood College.

David Taylor, Director of Sales

David has over 7 years of sales and marketing experience in the senior living industry. Most recently he spent 3 years working as the director of sales and marketing for Goodwin House, a continuing care retirement community located in Alexandria, VA. Prior to his time with Goodwin House, he spent 5 years working here at Greenspring, where he held several positions on the sales team. David holds a B.S. in communications, and a minor in writing and rhetoric from James Madison University.

Sonya Bethel, M.D., Medical Director

Dr. Bethel received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, and her medical degree from the University of Florida, College of Medicine, in Gainesville, Florida in 1982. She completed an internship and residency in family practice at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Bethel is board-certified in family medicine and has active recertification status. She earned the certified medical director qualification from the American Medical Directors Association in December 2012. Dr. Bethel joined Greenspring in May 2007, bringing more than 30 years of experience in the practice of medicine.

Jason Healey, Director of Dining Services

Before being promoted to director of dining services, Jason served as assistant dining director and helped support the transformational positive changes in dining services at Greenspring. He also supported the Building Community Trust (BCT) team in their many initiatives and events for both staff and residents. Jason's extensive leadership experience includes director of food and beverage operations at Hilton Hotels and operations manager with Sodexo, supporting George Washington Hospital in Washington, D.C. Jason holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Mary Washington College with a concentration in finance.

Lynn Keefe, Director of General Services

Lynn Keefe served as the associate executive director at Greenspring from 2011 to 2014. She has nearly 25 years of progressive experience working with nonprofits. Before joining Greenspring, Lynn had been the regional director of financial development at the American Red Cross in the National Capital Region. Prior to that position, Lynn served as the chief executive officer of the Arlington County Chapter of the American Red Cross from 2000 to 2009, as senior associate of chapter operations at the American Red Cross National Headquarters from 1997 to 2000, as director of programs and services of the Arlington County Chapter of the American Red Cross from 1993 to 1997, and as director of the Ottawa County District at the American Red Cross Greater Toledo Area Chapter from 1991 to 1993. Lynn received a bachelor’s degree in consumer economics from Ohio State University.

Kimberly Nelson, Philanthropy Director

Kimberly has over 25 years of experience in the senior health care industry. Prior to joining the Greenspring team in 2002, Kimberly worked for Marriott International Senior Living Services, HCR-Manor Care, and Inova. She is a certified activity consultant and is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Association for HealthCare Philanthropy, and the National Committee on Planned Giving. She earned her B.A. in sociology with a concentration in gerontology from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
